Newspaper Hires Armed Guards after outing Gun owners.

The Journal News has hired a private security agency with armed guards to stand guard at there headquarters. They did this in response to negative emails and calls over an article publishing every registered gun owners name in the paper.

Has anyone told them that the Private Security officers also are registered gun owners in order to have their guns. The also have a CWP in order to carry there weapon that is suppose to protect the paper. Can I say DUUUUHHHH.

From what I have read it would seem that they have received no threats but just angry people whose names were printed in the paper. I just find it funny they hired armed guards.

No not unfortunate. The unfortunate part is they violated those people's privacy with out their consent. The funny part is that apparently the news paper thinks all people are like Lanza.

If they had a credible threat I could understand. So far the emails and calls have just been angry readers mad their names are put in the paper without their consent.

The paper should have known they would get this exact response by doing that.

Though then every person who is against firearms in general know who they are and where they live. Would you want you name and address printed in the paper without your knowledge.

For me it is not a matter of a criminal knowing I am armed it is those who go to the extreme kind of like PETA.

I'm not surprised they ended up hiring armed guards. It increasingly seems to me, looking at it from the outside, that people in the USA seem to be starting to use guns to settle ordinary quarrels - quarrels that might flare up to a fistfight in other countries, because guns are so readily available in the US, those quarrels become shooting incidents.

And thats as well as the accidents, and the people who go on shooting sprees.

The point made above that the newspaper should have expected people to be angry is a fair point as well ... it does make me wonder if they kind of knew they'd go down this route.

Its ultimate hypocrisy. "I am against guns no not all guns just everybody else's". They needed a lesson in humility, now they have to walk the walk. Of they pulled that crap in Texas no guard would have worked for them, I might for about 800 an hour, they are high risk.

Wait a minute. They out all of the gun owners because they oppose guns, but then they hire a private security agency that has guns? How come people are hypocrites and never abide by their principles?

I personally oppose our socialized medicine up here and I also oppose Social Security so I'm not going to use them. If I opposed guns then I certainly wouldn't hire a PRIVATE security company to defend me.

Freedom of information is just that. The paper made the decision to publish the information and should have known that people would be upset. But if they feel that they need protection from some of the crazies out there, then they should get it. Who knows what has been sent to them in the form of threats, we are not on the inside. Hearsay is just that.

Freedom of information is one thing though there are laws against publish private information. Basically you put pins on a map for would be theives that want gun now know where they are.

You want to publish a person's name fine address and all that not fine. It is like a moron posting on facebook they are not home and having their profile public.
